Locks and keys — all you need to know

Sometimes it can be tricky to understand what's going on with your locks. Check out the answers to some of our frequently asked questions below, or get in touch for anything else.

What is key removal?

There are a few reasons you may need this done. Most commonly it is because you have snapped a key off in your front door or opened your roller door with the key still in it. Another reason that is quite common is the key isn’t snapped but is unable to be removed from the lock. This is normally something that can easily be fixed or replaced.

Why would I need to gain entry?

Left in a hurry and forgotten your keys? Had a few to many and left your keys in the Uber? Coming home from holidays and the airline lost your bags with your keys inside? You need to hire us to gain entry.

What payment methods do you offer?

With all our jobs there is an option to pay with a credit card or cash. We are also able to email you a copy of the receipt on all jobs if you require it.

Will my locks be damaged?

It is very unlikely that your locks will be damaged whilst being opened, but occasionally it can happen. You can be comfortable in the fact that after I open your door we will always check to make sure your key is still working and if it isn’t I can fix it for you at no additional cost!

What is re-keying?

Commonly referred to as “re tumbling the tumbler” changing the keys to your lock is actually called re-keying. There are so many reasons you may need to rekey your lock.

Whether it’s because you just had your keys stolen, you may have just bought a new house or you have just had a sour ending to one of your rental leases or maybe you should consider that even though your tenants left on good terms, you never know if anyone had a spare key or if anybody house sat for them and kept the key.

Is my lock single or double sided?

This is something your locksmith might ask you if you are looking to get your locks rekeyed. The reason they will be asking is to help determine the price of your job and help give them an accurate cost and time it will take to complete.

This is extremely simple to determine yourself! If your lock has a key hole just on the outside it is a single sided lock, alternately there may be a key hole on the inside and the outside of the lock, this would be a double sided lock.
